With the latest roll-out of Tandem for AEC, we have been asked a few questions about how to access a Tandem for AEC account in addition to an existing Tandem Free account and how to transfer facilities (with their tagged assets and streams) to their new Tandem for AEC account. It's important to note that you can access multiple Tandem accounts, so you can continue to use your Tandem Free account along with any other Tandem accounts you may have access to.
Here are some steps you can follow to ensure a smooth transition:
Next, if you want to move your facilities along with its tagged assets and streams to your Tandem for AEC account, you will have to transfer the facilities that have tagged assets out of your free account and into this new account. This link provides the instructions to transfer a facility. The tagged asset count in your free account will go down and transferred to the receiving account, in this case that is the Tandem for AEC account.
To add additional users to this new account, you will follow the same instructions as step 1 i.e., add the user to BIM Collaborate Pro and then add to Tandem.
A few things to note:
Thanks for the details. I have two questions.
Hi @Chad-Smith - If you have followed the steps above and are still having issues, please reach out to your Autodesk Customer Success Manager or Support Specialist. This may be related to account permissions for your particular account type. Regarding the second scenario, you can always add clients and subcontractors and other members to the "account" and they will have permissions to perform the work. Just be aware that they will also need a seat in BIM Collaborate Pro.

I'm an account admin in the management portal, so it looks like we don't yet have access to it. As you suggest I will reach out to our CSM to investigate. Thank you.

But as you previously mentioned, those external members will have access to all the account's facilities.
So how do we bring in external members in a secured and project-only manner so that we can work collaboratively to prepare the digital twin before handover to the client?
@Chad-Smith - I received confirmation that token-flex (EBA) accounts who have BIM Collaborate Pro will have to request the Tandem for AEC access from their Customer Success Managers; so I am hopeful that route should work out for you!
If facility-level access for users and API based integrations are must-haves for your workflow, then Tandem subscription might be the better option. One thing to note is that a single user can have multiple accounts; Tandem, Tandem for AEC, and Tandem Free. We have these options to provide greater flexibility for AEC firms to structure their twin building efforts. Your CSM will be the best point of contact to review the sales points for each of these offerings.
Thank you for the additional information.
I'll finish with a final comment.
The messaging around Tandem for AEC isn't particularly clear when now read in context with this post. The inability to bring other BIM Collab Pro licensed users into a single facility contradicts the marketing material that uses language such as "a broad spectrum of professionals", "helps project teams align", "benefits for the project team", etc. It suggests that this solution will allow BIM Collab Pro teams to work together in preparing the digital twin. And as I said in my first reply, if not, then this will likely be considered a blocker.
Obviously, there is no problem with each company managing their own account and staff. But those users should be able to go to their respective profile Facilities page to access facilities which they are participating as an AEC professional in the pre-handover delivery stages. They may be actively engaged with Edit permissions (e.g. architect / subcontractor), or only a reviewer with View permissions (e.g. client).
I hope this is reviewed to allow this process to instead be a team effort under the Tandem for AEC solution.
There are now numerous nuanced differences between the three tiers.
It might be handy to include on the website a comparison table of the three offerings showing what is and isn't included to make this clearer for us.
Hi,
Thanks for the article. From my understanding if anyone wants to view the facilities in a Tandem for AEC account they "MUST" have a BIM collaborate Pro license. APIs are also unavailable. To me this sounds like a "Limited" or "Locked" version of the full account!
People who gets invited as a "viewer", can be a wide range of users, from operation, to engineers or even directors and project managers. These members will never have a BIM collaborate Pro license purchased. Which make facilities in Tandem for AEC accounts only useful for BIM guys. What is the solution for this? Is Tandem for AEC accounts are desingned only as a temporary solution and you expect all facilities in Tandem for AEC accounts to eventually be transferred to another account in order for users to have more freedom?
