  • The Shear Resistance Equation from Eurocode EN 1992-1-1, Cl: 6.2.2, Eq.1

    The Input Sectional Properties in Autodesk:
    Width= 1000 mm                   Depth= 200 mm Clear Cover= 50 mm            Reinforcement = 16mm@125 mm c/c (Both Layers).

  • The figure below illustrates the shear resistance calculation in Autodesk Bridge Design. While the input sectional properties specify the concrete area as 200,000 mm², the program calculates it as 215,100 mm².

  • Also, the figure below shows that the program calculated the effective depth as 100 mm, which is incorrect. The accurate effective depth should be calculated as d = 200 - 50 - 16 - 8 = 126 mm.

  • Moreover, the program applies different equations of shear resistance based on whether the section is cracked or uncracked. However, the second equation is intended to be used only when the section is classified as a prestressed element, but the program also uses this equation for reinforced concrete if the section is uncracked.
