Text texture from 3ds Max

Hello,

If I am right I think Scaleform is just for HUD, so I'm trying to create a 3D element with text to display some information in Stingray and be able to play around with that object. I am creating that in 3ds max applying a textMap to a new material, creating something like a text texture, the problem is that Stingray doesn't recognize the texture, I guess because the text source was created in 3dsMax with a textPlus command.

Anyone knows how can I define the file path to that texture or how to create something similar in Stingray. (with a bitmaps from external images there is not such a problem, just when you create a textmap)

Thank you!!

Hi Brais,

Can you be a little more specific about what it is you are trying to create? Is it a free-standing object in your game, or a texture being applied on top of another object, or a floating information panel that you want to have pop up on your screen?

Also, have you tried sending it using the plugin that creates a direct link between Max and Stingray?

Thanks!
Efrie

Hi efriedlander,

Yes I want to create a floating information panel that I want to pop up in my screen, but I want to be able to move it and place it wherever I want in my environment, that's why I think Scaleform is not an option. So following the instructions in the link below I've tried to create a text object in 3ds MAX and export it through the direct link to Stingray.

So answering your questions, I would say yes I am trying to create a floating information panel and to do that I've opted for creating a 3D object in 3ds Max applying a text texture on its top, I want this object to be able to pop up in my screen or just be free standing, whatever. But the problem is not about the object behavior in Stingray, I guess I can deal with that, the problem is that Stingray doesn't recognize that texture, probably because is based in a Text_Plus object in 3ds max.

Hope this explanation can be helpful. Thank you so much for your help!

The TextMap in 3dsMax is a special use-case map that will only work within 3dsMax. In order to work with Stingray you'll need to make a regular bitmap texture (like in Photoshop) and assign that in Max for use with Stingray.
