Stingray + Maya LT : Any Way New Advancemend in the FBX Format?

Hi. It seems only the meshes are perfectly preserved most of the time when importing or exporting even with the most compatible format, the .fbx format but most of the time you have to reapply the material on their correct mesh surfaces and correct the scale/measurements as well as other stuff. Also if there's (in the asset you're exporting or importing): physics, blueprints and animation, those seem to have to be manually linked again to the meshes (saved separately in a different format like APEX/Phsyx).

It's like .docx or .doc, wherein even if it's it's the most compatible format for text, it still fails when opened in other apps that can't rearrange it's hidden stuff and formatting or the fonts used. Unlike .PDF which most of the time (not always still) comes out perfectly on any program, especially the well known ones.

Autodesk must create it's an open source it's equivalent of the .pdf for 3D formats where everything is immaculately preserved when it's imported or exported.

Is there any development by the 3D format alliance (if it's non-existent maybe Autodesk can spearhead this kind of alliance so all 3D products including 3D printers and hardware are all 100% flawlessly compatible) to make a new format or improve .fbx that it's like .jpg or .gif or .png, wherein we're all not worried if it'll come out differently in another app in another OS - it just works, it opens perfectly as a perfect clone.

It may even be time for a new format that preserved everything which Autodesk can pioneer as open so every 3D product can create plug-ins for it as soon as possible. Maybe name is .3D8 (8 or hachiko as in the dog movie symbolism for perfection or good fortune or loyalty- loyal to the original coz' most letters and number are taken by other formats like 3D7 - got to use or register .3d8 asap while still nobody's using it)

Thank you. God bless. Rev. 21:4

Hi Alvin,

FBX is pretty much the industry standard now for 3d import/export of engines. If you set up your files properly to work in Stingray work flow in your dcc tool and export the FBX, you should not have to set anything up again when importing to Stingray -- materials, textures, animations, etc ... all come in and are set up properly. Are you fbx files coming from an unknown or different source than autodesk dcc tools? Could you provide us with a sample fbx file you are having difficulty with so we may investigate? Thanks!
