Touch Zoom is Shaky / Jittery

Hello, I am running Sketchbook Pro on Windows 10 on my Surface Pro 3. Everything works fine, but when I touch two fingers to the screen to zoom in and out, move, rotate, etc, the canvas starts to shake. It rotates back and forth and zooms in and out in a big jittery mess. It does rotate and zoom in the direction I want it to go, but it's not smooth or precise like it should be.

Yes, I have attempted to change the DPI settings. While this version of Windows 10 doesn't allow specific apps to have different DPI settings, changing the whole DPI for everything still has no effect, whether it be at 100%, 200%, or 150%.

There's either something wrong with my Windows 10 touch input or my Sketchbook but I can't for the life of me figure out what it is, and there's nothing even remotely close in either's settings.

What version of Sketchbook are you using?

Version 8.5.1, should be the most recent one. For Windows 10, with pro subscription.

Ah, and since you're in IT, yes I tried turning it off and on again, and I've tried updating both Sketchbook and Windows to the latest version and making sure my CPU isn't going crazy every time I touch-zoom. It spikes to 25% or something but it does the same when I dye the whole screen a certain color, kinda figure it has to do with the screen changing more than anything. It shouldn't be enough to cause a lag, should it?

I also have a whole bunch of brushes downloaded. Could that be causing it for some reason?

Edited for clarity

Hmmm, not much joy there then.

I have the same problem, with the windows 10 version and the full blown pro version too. in fact the pro version is worse. it's always been like that.

I find it so off putting that I've been trying alternatives. "concepts" and "Leonardo" both have silky smooth touch canvas rotation and zoom. And it must be possible from an organisation like Autodesk, I mean look at the stable of Autodesk products, totally incredible. yet this really lets sketchbook down for me. And I'm sure I'm not alone.

I'll keep looking for the answer I guess. And if anybody has found a solution to this, I'd really love to know.

Cheers,

Nick

There are 2 versions. you can run on Windows 10.  I would test out both versions on your computer.

DESKTOP

Windows 10 (tablet version)

www.sketchbook.com/windows10

Depending on the auxiliary device (tablet), it could be a driver issue.  I would also try this if you are on the desktop version of SketchBook.

Thanks for the reply, but maybe you didn't read the beginning of my message, I am running both versions. I bought Sketchbook Pro 2010 many years ago. And it's currently running at version 8.6.0 from 2018 or so - and it's a great program, I love it. but it does have the issue as discussed above.

I tried following the links you kindly posted, but unfortunately haven't yet found anything in there that helps. In fact the first link takes you to a page about improving performance, and ....

"The first thing we always recommend is to turn off Enable Rotate Canvas." so yeah, not much help there then...

In terms of auxiliary device, I currently have this issue on a Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga X1 with a Wacom stylus. The stylus works fine however, it's the touch zoom that's the issue.

Does nobody else have this issue?..

I have the same issue on my Desktop version that you get from the website, but on the one you get from the Microsoft store I have no issues with the touch input. BUT I have to use the Desktop version because the Microsoft store version is so unstable that I would describe it as broken. Within a 30 minute session I can conservatively expect the app to crash no less than 11 times.

Yeah, I had the Microsoft store version - and it crashed several times as well.

I then downloaded the desktop one (also for the broader range of tools) - and now my canvas shakes uncontrollably when i pinch zoom.

Sigh. It's like finding the love of your life and finding out she's a nazi. Switching to other alternatives, sadly.

The issue exists for years on the desktop version but nobody from Autodesk seems to spents effort in fixing it.
And on the other side the app version of Skecthbook has to support for non touch devices.
It's also mentioned in the ideas section of the forum. I don't know why this is so difficult to fix and why it takes so long.

For the moment, if you're using the desktop version the best you can do is to deactivate your touch functions. And if you want to use touch functionality you have to use the app version. It will work much better on touch devices.
