Lagging brush strokes after last update?

Hey. I just updated Sketchbook Pro when prompted and now every brush stroke is incredibly slow, no matter what brush. Using a smaller canvas doesn't help and my computer isn't running any other programs. It's too slow for the program to be of any use whatsoever. I'm using a Surface Book and my version of Sketchbook Pro is 8.5.

What can I do? Thanks in advance.

I'm getting the same. Suddenly feels like a "chunky" piece of software, and not the swift, sleek software it's known for.

I've also spotted a bug - the colour palette won't always open since update to 8.5. (the Copic library does open)

It does look better, but functionality appears to have suffered. [Surface Pro 4 i5 4GB]

My wacom companion to is a stand alone with windows 10 installed on it and it has the brush lag, and this trouble shooting didn't work for me..

I also have the same problem. I'm using a Microsoft Surface Book, drawing directly on the screen (i.e. NO Wacom) and just updated to 8.5. LAAAGGGGG! Brush strokes are terribly slow now. Unusable.

1. If you are the desktop version of SketchBook, try this:

Edit > Preferences > Uncheck the box "Enable Rotate"

2. You can uninstall SketchBook 8.5 and try the older version:

Unchecking auto-rotation seemed to fix the issue, and I encourage all other users with this problem to give it a shot.

However, that's a functionality I use consistently as I draw. I don't feel I should have to sacrifice a core part of the program in order to make it usable. Is downgrading to an older version really my only option?

I can confirm that the issue works in Windows 10, in or out of tablet mode.

Disabling auto-rotate seems to have fixed the  issue. Thanks for the suggestion. Luckily I don't really use the auto-rotate feature, but for those to do, do you plan to fix this problem in the next version?

Whoops spoke too soon. Turns out I do use the auto-rotate feature. I thought it referred to the whole screen rotating when turning the actual tablet/computer (I'm on a Surface Book). Didn't realize it was the ROTATE feature in Sketchbook (what about it is 'auto' exactly?) So this is definitely not a fix for me, I always rotate my canvas.

BTW The Windows 10 version works just fine, no brushstroke lag.

I guess for now I'll be rolling back to 8.4 :S

I have been getting lots of reports of some lag issues.  I am working with the development team to confirm and work on the issue.  At this time, the best workaround is using SketchBook 8.4.

I installed the 8.4 version from the link you posted. But large brushes still lag for me. Im using the desktop version on my surface tablet.

This update has rendered the program unusable.  While the Windows 10 app is a stop-gap solution, it is not nearly as robust as the desktop version.  I tried to rollback but it would not allow me for some reason.  Trying another method to get the old version back.  This is on the Surface Book w/ Performance Base; I was excited for the graphical update but unfortunately I won't be able to use it until this issue is fixed.

We just released SketchBook 8.5.1 and it appears to have resolved the issue.

Will going back to the previous version delete all of my finished art, or will it keep all my drawings. The lag problem is also for android tablets,I use a Samsung tablet, so it isn't just for desktop.

It would also be nice if you could bring back the previous brush sets, the new ones are kind of confusing to try and find similar tools

Regarding brushes - the older brushes are still there but are now under the Legacy folder.

Basic and Legacy brushes (Mobile only)

If you have been using SketchBook since before the release of 4.0, you will notice a bunch of new brush sets, such as Texture Essentials, Fine Art, Half Tone, Artist, and Pastel. One big change for you could be the Basic and Legacy brush sets.

Legacy is a new brush set, in name only. In the previous versions of SketchBook, the brushes now in Legacy where found in Basic. We moved them to make room for a new set of basic brushes that take advantage of our new texture technology. All your favorite brushes still exist. They’ve just been moved to Legacy.

Basic contains a whole new set of brushes that take advantage of textures. Try them out and see how close they come to the real thing!

I still have lagging brushes occurring primarily since the 8.5.1 update. Everything lags. I tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it. No go. I reinstalled wacom drivers. No go. Then I noticed that the mouse input draws very fast with no lag no matter what size the brush is. The instant I switch to the wacom pen it lags like crazy. This does not happen in any other software (tested on photoshop and brush lag is non-existent).

Once I uninstalled and reinstalled 8.4.2 everything went back to normal and no lag whatsoever. So something is still amiss with the 8.5.1 update. So there seems to be some sort of glitch with how the wacom tablet vs the mouse interface process things for sbpro.

I am running win7 64 bit with plenty of power to do sbpro no problem - i7 3770 3.5GHz, 16G DDR3 ram, nvidia gtx 970, all HD are Samsung SSD.
