Android: SketchBook Tips and Tricks

1. The Android OS runs on many devices, with many hardware vendors. At this time, we have tested only Samsung devices with the S-Pen. It is the ONLY device that has a stylus and can detect pressure from within SketchBook.

2.  If you have a Huawei device, we cannot acquire any of these devices for testing. Therefore, if the app is crashing, our best advice is to reset the app, using instructions in this post.

3. If you need pressure on Android, you can now use a Wacom tablet:

4. If you are running Android 5 (the oldest operating system we support), please note that performance will be affected. The older operating system, the older the hardware will be, and amount of usable memory (especially if you have an extensive photo collection). Therefore, we recommend you use a smaller canvas, when starting a sketch, for the best performance.

5. In our last update, we have fixed a Gallery corruption issue and added Samsung DEX support (SketchBook 5.2.2):

6. In the event that your SketchBook is crashing and re-installing the updated app (5.2.2) has not resolved the issue, please try this:

NOTE:  This is a way to completely RESET SketchBook to default!

7. One nice feature in SketchBook is to save your progress (versioning) of your file.  You can review the steps noted here:  http://help.autodesk.com/view/SKETPRO/ENU/?guid#saving

The basic workflow is:

a. Start a sketch.

b. Start a new sketch and save the sketch that you are working on.

c. Go back to the original sketch (in step a) via the Gallery.

d. Work on sketch (in step a) and then start a new sketch. At this point, you can 'Save a Copy" of your work.

By Saving a copy of the file, you will have versions of the file.  More importantly, if your file gets corrupted, you can open a previous iteration of that sketch and you won't lose too much of your progress.

8.  If you are experiencing "White Tiling on the Canvas", this means your hardware (display graphics) is not powerful enough to run SketchBook.

9. To properly import a .tiff file that you worked on the DESKTOP version of SketchBook, please follow the steps noted here (How to import emailed TIFF images into SketchBook for Android):

http://help.autodesk.com/view/SKETPRO/ENU/?guid=SKETPRO_Help_sb_basics_back_files_settings_html#how-...

10. We have some reports with lower-memory GPU-configured Adreno (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adreno) devices and SketchBook. At this time, we hope to acquire and test some of these devices to determine a course of action. If you are having an issue, please post a note in this forum post. Include your device’s model number and the Android version you’re running, so we can tally up known issues from the SketchBook Community and alert the SketchBook development team, as necessary.
