Smart bonding problem modal analysis

I am attempting to use smart bonding in a model to bond a part made of plate elements to a part made of brick elements without having to match the mesh manually. I have created a bonded contact pair between the two parts, and have enabled smart bonding in the general contact settings. In the selection tree when I right click on the contact pair>edit settings I am not able to change any of the smart bonding tolerance settings, all options are grayed out (see screenshot). The analysis type I am working in is a modal analysis. However if I change the analysis type to static stress with linear material models and try to edit the settings of the same contact pair, I am able to change the tolerances as desired.

The simulation mechanical "Types of Contact" help page indicates that smart bonding is allowable in modal analysis.

Why am I not able to edit the smart bonding tolerances when in a modal analysis type? How can I fix this issue?

The software version I am using is Simulation Mechanical 2017. Thanks.
