Cannot change element type to 2-D, option missing

Hi,

Just wanted to do a simple 2-D analysis but cannot change it to 2-D type (could before...)

My model is very simple also in the attachment if you want to see.

What i did is:

1. Start a new analysis

2. Use the sketch option to put 4 (2 for each part) circles in one plane

3. 2-D mesh both parts

4. Trying to select element type 2-D and its missing (usually it is selected by default)

Am I doing something wrong or I'm missing something ?

Hmm, I'm guessing you cannot start from the XY plane ?

Hi @Anonymous,

In order to use 2D elements, your drawing should be on the YZ plane at X=0. If you're importing a model in DWG form, there should be an option to transform the geometry to a specific plane. We do have a tip in the 2D element help page of how to transform your drawing if you accidentally drawn in the wrong plane.

Tip: Useful commands for converting 3D models to 2D models are Draw Pattern Relocate & Scale, Draw Pattern Rotate or Copy, and Draw Modify Project to Plane. For example, you may accidentally create a mesh in the XY plane. You can rotate the mesh to the YZ plane using either the Relocate & Scale or Rotate command. Due to round-off, some nodes may have a small X coordinate value that prevents the element type from being set to 2D. In this case, use Project to Plane to snap the nodes exactly to the YZ plane.

Regards,
Andrew
