Announcing Simulation Mechanical 2017 SP1

Hi All,

I'm pleased to announce the launch of Autodesk Simulation Mechanical 2017 SP1. Customers should begin seeing the update appear in the Autodesk Application Manager. Or you can download it directly from the Autodesk Knowledge Network.

You can find a list of the issues addressed in this release below, for localized versions of this read-me you can find them on the Autodesk Knowledge Network page for the release.

Analysis

    • Analyses fail with a fatal error message if the *.NAS file is directly opened in the Autodesk Nastran Editor and you attempt to solve it from there.
    • When running a job on a remote computer, the job status shown in the FEA Editor could become out of sync with the Simulation Job Manager (SJM). In addition, certain jobs, such as MES with Nonlinear Material Models, may fail to solve with unexpected errors.
    • The job status shown in the FEA editor will be out of sync with the Simulation Job Manager (SJM) when solving a model that is stored on a network drive.

Note: You may encounter the following error or other ones when solving a model that is stored on a network drive. You can still get results after dismissing the error.

0x6D: Could not determine model node count.

Please check model prior to running simulation to avoid this issue.

    • An error occurs when you attempt to analyze a model combining the following three characteristics:
      • The“Generate 2nd order elements" meshing option is activated,
      • The "Use Delaunay + ATF mesher" option is activated, and
      • Midside nodes are included in the element definition.

CAD Interoperability

    • Importing Creo 3.0 models using the native Pro/ENGINEER translator is not supported for either the push or the pull workflow on Windows 7.

Note: You may encounter this issue on Windows 8.1, Windows 10 or Windows Server 2012 after installing Service Pack 1 for Autodesk Simulation Mechanical 2017.

    • A licensing error occurs when you attempt to push a model from Autodesk Inventor to Simulation Mechanical 2017. The problem occurs for standalone license type.

General / User Interface

    • When you set the decimal separator to a comma (,) in the Windows® regional settings, the Simulation Mechanical mesh settings cannot be changed.
    • For nonlinear analyses, the “Maximum initial distance” field within the Surface Contact Options dialog is disabled when it should be available. Specifically, when the Contact Element Updating option in the General Contact Settings dialog is set to “Never update contact elements,” the Maximum initial distance” field should be active.
    • The AlgFrame.exe and AlgAdlm.exe processes may not terminate normally when you exit the software. Then, Simulation Mechanical 2017 cannot be launched without first using the Windows® Task Manager to kill these two processes.
    • When using non-English regional settings, unexpected errors occur when you attempt to create a new Static Stress with Nonlinear Material Models analysis.
    • For Shrink Fit contact in linear static analyses, with the Interference set to Automatic, an error message appears when you try to accept the contact settings and exit the dialog.

Report Environment

    • The Combine Load Cases utility in the Results environment may crash with the error message “comblc has stopped working.”
