Showcase doesn't like revolved solids, huh?
Made a scene and applied materials and zoomed back to look at the scene and saw an anololy and zoomed into that. A plubing device had distortred completely. It seems as though it "revolved" it around an axix that was 90 degrees off of the original axis.
Made a few revolved solids alone to test and sure enough, all the revolved solids were corrupt. Replaced it with a cylinder solid (not the actual shape of the object) and all went well after that.
I would think that showcase would support ACAD native entities but maybe not.
Any thoughts on why this happens or has anyone else experienced this?
Regards,
DJ

I can upload the model of the offending entity if anyone (AutoDESK?) wants to have a look at the bad revolved solid so they can play with it. Have to be this evening (Pacific) when I get home from work.

Hi John,
can you attach the file?

I tried changing the revolved surface to regions and/or faces and that did not help much if at all.
The only way I was able to get the object with revolved surface into SC was by re-creating it as a cylinder.
Originally the object was shaped somewhat like a barrel. In fact exactly like a barrel or keg.
I am simply opening a DWG file with SC, don't know of any other conversion prog. Is there?
Posting file tomorrow or late this eve.
Thanx

Normally there are not problems with AutoCAD revolved solids imported in Showcase.

As I post this I am thinking that there may be a file version issue. The ACAD model was made with ACAD 2012 and I am trying out Showcase 2014 amd I think that crosses the DWG format line.
This is what I got importing the file:
This is a sample of making the revolved surface a cylinder as a workaround:
The dwg file should be attached to this post. Sometimes it doesn't work so I'll repost if it doesn't.
Thank you for taking time to look at this. Appreciate it.
John
no issues for me with the dwg you posted..
i'm using showcase 2013 SP4..
maybe you have to install some hotfix for sc2014.. i know there's a problem with the fbx converter
Hi Dr John,
i have your issue with Showcase 2014 and 2015, and probably as you predict is due both to the version files and the particular change of curvature.
You can export in Autocad in FBX format then import in Showcase, you should have no problem.

I will try that this eve and get back to you.

OK ... this is starting to suck.
The same file as posted above with 2012 ACAD fbx export = nothing to export ... can only export solids. Well, they are all solids and not a block.
DXFOUT = the same thing as the first corruption pic above.
So I found a friend that had SC 2012, sent him my file.
He had no issues importing it. Looks just like the pic in cikho's post above.
So I asked him to save it as a SC file and I opened it in 2014 and all was well. But that just ain't right.
Gotta be dwg file format. Just gotta be. I'll find an ACAD 2014 or better and save in that DWG format and try again.
I'll let ya know.
Thanx much for the brainstorm.

DJ
