import FBX file and the parts are grouped together

Hi,

When I import a fbx file, the objects are grouped/combined and I cannot exploded them. Is there a way to seperate them in Showcase or is there a options in 3D Max so it will export correctly?

Thanks,

Judy

showacase groups togheter objects being in position continuity and having the same material.

try the following:

1. apply different materials to the objects before exporting.. can be basic materials.

2. use 3ds max layers, as far as i remember they're kept by shwocase also

2. use groups

3. always export in poly (don't leave active modificators, always collapse)

Hi Judy,

are you exporting your objects from Revit or AutoCAD originally?

If your objects are coming from Autocad/Revit as blocks, they will come as one objects in Showcase. You need to explode them first in AutoCAD/Revit. Which ever way they are in the software of origin, they will show the same way in Showcase.

If you want to go via the 3ds Max Design route, you can apply an edit poly on the objects and separate them by elements or faces as you wish. However, it might be easier for you do work on the objects in the software of origin.

Showcase will not allow you to detach element from blocks or attached objects. Showcase only allows you to "ungroup" objects that have been group in the software of origin.

Hope this helps.

Marion
