4K Problems

ScreenCast used to work very well for me, back when I had a Windows 7 Laptop with a regular resolution screen and monitor. Last month I got a new Windows 10 Laptop with 4K resolution and a 50" 4K Monitor. I haven't been able to make a ScreenCast since.

List of Problems:
1. Recording chops off left half of the monitor screen.
2. If I mess with "Override high DPI Scaling..." options under the Compatibility Tab, I can record, but nothing on my monitor. Just the Laptop Screen. I can see my cursor moving around, but the image is my Laptop Screen.

Anyone else having difficulties with Windows 10/4K Resolution?

Hi @Pointdump,

Thank you for using screencast. Sorry to hear that you're having troubles. We're looking into support for higher resolution monitors in the future.

Does the screencast record properly if you disconnect your large display and record directly from the laptop screen?

DD,

"Does the screencast record properly if you disconnect your large display and record directly from the laptop screen?"

Well, kinda. It chops off a bit of the top and bottom of my laptop screen. If I reduce the window size of the program I want to record, say for instance AutoCAD, then ScreenCast helpfully offers to resize the window which expands the window back to where the top and bottom are chopped off.

There is a way to use an <<<External Manifest to manually scale a program to work with 4K Screens>>> but I'm not smart enough, or brave enough, to try it.

I sure miss ScreenCast. It was effortlessly easy. I downloaded Camtasia this morning and spent several hours trying to figure out how to use it. I was even willing to spend $200 if it worked. But it has a horrible dark user interface and it doesn't seem possible to find where it stores your videos.

I am having the exact same problem - the recorder only captured a portion of the screen.

To make matters worse, the mouse pointer does not line up with the activity on the screen.

Screencast Recorder 3.3 / Build Nov 3 2017 14:31:16 (1018741)

Fusion 360 2.0.3802

Windows 10 up-to-date

Dell XPS 15 with its inbuilt screen (4K), no other monitors connected.

Solved! Err, sort of.

Using Windows Compatibility settings to "override high DPI scaling" fixes the issue of the interface being unusably tiny.

But it breaks the recording part, so Screencast captures the wrong portion of the screen and it doesn't line up with the mouse movements.

So a bit of a workaround - I'll get out a magnifying glass when I need to use Screencast. 😛

Checked, Un-checked, and I tried all three of these, but nothing makes Screencast useable for me. What did you set yours to?

I unchecked them, both on Fusion and Screencast.
Unusably tiny Screencast interface, but at least it captures correctly.

I thought, OK, deep breath, I'll try an <<<External Manifest>>>.

Nope. The only thing it improved was the Screencast Window, which I can, at least, now move around. But I can still only capture a cut-off portion of the window on my laptop screen. I give up. I'll wait and see if Autodesk fixes this 4K issue. I sure miss Screencast.

Hi @ddeike

I am also having this issue,

Is there a fix or workaround that can be applied?

The recording only captures the top left corner of my screen.

Cheers,

Hi @jonathan.artiss,

Sorry to hear you're having this issue. Are you selecting to record your "Main Display" under Options >> Select a region? Or are you trying to select a specific portion of your screen?

Thanks, @ddeike

Hi @ddeike

I was trying to record an application, I haven't tried any of the other settings such as main display or area.

This was with the DPI setting overwritten.

I managed to capture the screencast by keeping the DPI set to default. This is with the latest version installed.

Cheers,

Thanks for the explanation. We'v'e logged the bug in the backlog, and will address at some point in the future. I'm glad that you were able to record.

Derek,

"...selecting to record your 'Main Display' under Options >> Select a region?"

I don't see "Options" anywhere. Where can I find that?

Derek,
I just downloaded the latest version of ScreenCast. No change. Still doesn't work with a 4K monitor. I know it's a free program, but ScreenCast is the ONLY Autodesk program I use that hasn't fixed the 4K issue. AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Map 3D, InfraWorks, and even ReCap work OK.
