Extrude solid profile

Hi friends!

Is it possible to draw, for example, an L-shaped section and then extrude it as a solid? How?

Please check the attached file for the intended result.

And if so, can i aplly a material to it and study it´s stresses, deformations, etc...

Many thanks.

But when i choose panel, i dont have the "face" option. Only "panel" and "opening".

Its in portuguese, sorry.

Português!!! 🙂

Sou eng civil e tenho usado um programa da concorrência. Estou num período de trial 30 dias e tudo me leva a crer que vou trocar para o Robot.

Abraço!

PS: (Just not to be rude, i typed in portuguese that i am on a 30-day free trial of Robot but i´m loving it. I will trade the current software i use for Robot! ) 🙂

The only thing that i still can´t figure how to do is this: http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/robot-structural-analysis/modeling-aluminium-window/td-p/5588995

But i´ll get there... eventually... 🙂

Hello guys.

Here I am with another doubt.

I want to apply an uniform load on this surface (-y direction) but i can only select the edges. Can´t figure how to select the solid surfaces to apply loads.

Once again, thanks for the help.

Do you really need to use solids?? Why don´t you use a shell model. It´s a lot easier to model , apply loads and get/read results!!!!

I use shell models to study, for example, glass panels and concrete slabs.

When i need to study an isolated profile (like the L shaped one) can i also use shell models?

I tried that before i posted this topic  but i could only get a mesh in the contour of the "L". It was modeled like a hollow section and could not even define its material.

If this can be done with a shell, can you kindly tell me how?

Many thanks!

One of the methods for creating a L shape shell model.

You can also use extrusion like you did for solids , or create contours and set them to be a panel

Excellent!

On the first method you defined the bars section as "cabo 2x14.8".

As we are only studing the shell, the bars section does not matter, right?

This forum is proving to be much better than all of the tutorials i´ve found so far.

Thanks again!

Yes , it could be any bar section , it doesn´t matter .

I used them just to easily create the 2 plates contour. After that ,don´t forget to delete all bars !!!!

Already tried and worked wonders Rafacascudo!

Now, (and this will be my last question, i promise), can i simulate the effect of bolts on one side of the profile?

Please see attached picture. It´s one simulation i did on another software.

Once again, terrific support you gave me. 🙂

Hello rafacascudo,

After all your (precious) help I run the calculations and, along the way, something must have gone very wrong due to some configuration that i missed...

I attach the file and a print screen of the results in case you can check it and find what poor miufs has done wrong this time. 🙂

Hello Rafal.

Where do you checked that table?

I have this table:

The load on PZ is not defined as 4 kN/m2??

Many thanks!
