Expanded Dynamo Integration and Additional Nodes

Expanded Dynamo Integration and Additional Nodes

I have recently been introduced to the use of Dynamo in Robot which I understand only became available in Version 2022 so is far from comprehensive but despite the current limitations, I absolutely love it and how it works!!!  So quick and easy to build and analysis models of common, repetitive structure types.  There are however a number of built-in nodes that would be incredibly useful which I summarise as follows:

  • Assigning rigid links.
  • Looking up section properties for defined sections (e.g. if I have defined a beam of say a 510 UB 92, to be able to look up the beam depth from the database and use that as a parameter to pass off to other nodes).
  • Defining and assigning design properties to members.
  • Modifying the LoadCase -> ByNature node to enable the ability to manually assign a Load Case Number.
  • Define load combinations.
  • Define the printout composition and generate graphical printouts of results.

Additionally, I have noticed while experimenting with Dynamo in Robot in that periodically, there seems to be some sort of conflict the arises between what Dynamo generates and what appears in Robot.  I suspect it is to do with the numbering system Robot used for analytical nodes and members.  For example, if I make major changes to the node connections in Dynamo, the numbering system for analytical nodes seems to get confused in that I get a list of analytical nodes in Robot that appears in the Object Selector but are not visible in the model and are not editable/cannot be deleted.  This also seems to happen if I have made some manual edits in Robot.  The results is that the Robot model stops updating, presumably because these 'ghost' nodes are interpreted either by Dynamo or Robot as already existing and therefore do not require updating.  The workaround is to start a completely new and blank Robot model which works but is less than ideal.  This is a hard item to describe so I have attached the Robot and Dynamo Script files to this post.

Edit:  Apparently I can't attach the .rtd file here?

Did they stop supporting Dynamo in RSA 2023 ?

The current built of RSA 2023 doesn't support Dynamo however, if I recall correctly, this was also the case with RSA 2022 and Dynamo only became available after the first batch of major updates which came out about a month after so I am hoping that will be the case with RSA 2023.

Dynamo Extension for Robot Structural Analysis 2023 is already available for the couple of days.

You should find it in Autodesk Desktop application as an Update or in your Accounts.

@okapawal

thanks for the update, I hope Autodesk make a tutorial for the best use of Dynamo with RSA in YouTube to expand the use of Dynamo integration in RSA

@okapawal

can I have a Link to download the extension to direct download.

Please use Accounts, this is the official distribution way.

When you install Dynamo Extension there are tutorials and samples in the folder

C:\ProgramData\Dynamo\Dynamo Core\2.13\samples\en-US\Robot Structural Analysis
