Walls - Modifying Walls

Hi,

Ok I'm new to Robot, so I will be asking a few dumb questions.  Please bare with me.

I'm starting to experiment with some of the elements and have gone through some of the tutorials.  I have created a very simple structure with walls.  The walls are 3.5m long, but the story's are 3.75m apart except for the last two which is 5m apart.  Two questions:

1. How do I change the height of the wall to a story?  They wall properties only allow you to change the mesh lock, etc, but not wall height.

2.  The stories are for other elements and the walls will actually be one large wall, so can I stretch the wall to be from ground floor to story 6 or is it better to have separate sections of wall at each floor and only ensure that the end fixities are correctly set up so that the wall can act as one wall?

hi @nicoBJ9ZU

try to use ExtrudeLines :

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/robot-structural-analysis-forum/api-extrudelines-get-walls-from-lines...

Draw a first slab, start ExtrudeLines, click on a thickness in the Robot dialog box, set a distance and click Ok.

1. modify the top nodes of the walls to the story.

2. To make use of the available tools and automation in Robot for reduced wall panel results and mass assignment to floors it is best to model individual panels per floor.

You can copy the panels to the floors above but the developers did not program in adjusting the walls to match the story Z coordinates automatically so you will need to manually edit the nodal coordinates to match the levels.

Dear Sir,

You may use this option to adjust any objects to the required plan:

Edit menu > Detailed Structure Correction:

wassim_said_said_2-1702423288816.png

Choose the tolerance slightly bigger than the distance between the plan & the walls.

It should work.

Pay attention to select objects before using this option otherwise all objects within the tolerance distance will be removed to the required plans.

Best regards,

Wassim Said

Hi everyone,

Thanks for the feedback.  It really is weird that there is no built in option to just adjust the walls heights in the properties window when you select it. That would normally be the case. Especially if there are multiple walls to change.  Really program oversight in my opinion.

The Problem with @DonBAE 's solution is that if you have multiple walls, then that can be really time consuming.  @wassim_said_said 's solution seems to be the best at the moment without installing any third party software.

Thanks again for all the feedback.  Really appreciate it.

HI @nicoBJ9ZU

Thank you for accepting my solution.

Indeed, if it is a question of modifying the walls that you have it may take a long time but downloading ExtrudeLines [2025] from the Autodesk App Store, drawing a shape on the floor and extruding it will take less time.

The app will not only be useful to you once, it will often be useful to you when the shapes or planes are complex

@Stephane.kapetanovic

Could you record a video? Or I still don't know how to do it.

hi @jzyqt2015

Here's a video showing an extruded rectangle. All shapes made from arcs and lines are possible.
