Tank reinforcement - how to check results obtained with the analytical method?

H all,

Please find attached the model I am working at. This is the tank under the hydrostatic load. Don't pay attention to the cover level that is smaller than recommended by the code.

Mxx map for panel number 2  and the corresponding calculation note for this model are attached as well. I don't know why in the calc note I don't see the extreme values of Mxx (also other forces) as per the map of Mxx.

Thank you in advance,

Jedi

Hi @jedi.sznajder

This part of the calculation note is useful for the selected analytical method.  As in this method the calculations of reinforcement are done by directions rotated by 12 degrees till the full circle is achieved only the value and the position where the maximal area of reinforcement is required makes sense. The others are displayed as values of axial forces and bending moments on the directions of the reinforcement but these are not the values used for reinforcement calculations:

Mxx.png

For the analytical method it makes better sense to look at the in-plane forces and bending moments for the 'main' directions but by the principles of this method these may not be the governing values either:

Thank you @Artur.Kosakowski

What would be the best approach to verify area of reinforcement from Robot? I can do it using the algorithm for bending+axial force (iteration) for the extreme bending moment/force couples as per Mxx,Myy,Nxx,Nyy maps.

Would you suggest the same approach or sth else?

Thank you,

Jedi

Hi @jedi.sznajder

The analytical method by its principle is 'tailored' to a software computation rather than being a manual calculation procedure and I have hard time to even suggest the way to check it by hand. What you can do is to use the 'traditional' Wood and Armer method so that you know M(wood and armer) and N force for given reinforcement direction and in a given location within the wall's area.

Hi @jedi.sznajder

I have managed to find the reference example of the use of this method which you may find useful for your hand verification. This example was also used during the implementation of this method in Robot.

Hi Jedi,

I just wanted to ask if you found the references I posted helpful.

Hi @jedi.sznajder

I have managed to find it with Google search for 'Capra Maury reinforcement calculation method':
