Steel Column Designing

Hello all,

I'm a new user with Robot Structural Analysis 2014 and I need to design some new steel columns. I am an intermediate level user of Autodesk Inventor and I am finding Robot not much user friendly in terms of modeling and designing elements. So all help is welcome!

The steel columns are those that support a racking structure. I've understand that I can model my own section with robot, but how do I create a perforated column (holes are both staggered and not staggered along the column)?

Should I design it with another CAD product? Or are out there columns already avaiable to download (I've searched but I couldn't find any).
