Spectral and P-Delta

Dear support team,

We are studying P-Delta effects on a bridge pylon. From modal-spectral analysis, we extracted pseudostatic forces for relevant modes, and then made a quadratic combination. Results are in good agreement with modal-spectral analysis. However, when we combine with permanent loads to run P-Delta analysis, quadratic combination for lateral loads is lost, so results don´t seem to be correct. Is there any way to fix this?

We also tried switching modal analysis to modal taking into account static forces, specifying permanent load case, and turning on P-Delta nonlinearity. Results look fine, but we are not sure if this approach is correct.

Regards,

Hi @alfredmx ,

Have you consider the possibility to try Deformator for this task?

Hello @Romanich,

Looks very interesting. Will it work if model has shell elements?

Hi @alfredmx ,

Definitely it will, but don't forget to freeze the mesh.
