Slab friction

Hi,

I´m analyzing  a water tank which may have a large temperature variation. I'm trying to model the friction between the bottom slab and the ground to get the traction in the bottom slab, but all i get is non-convergence for each of the load cases and combinations.

Does anybody knows how to solve this.

Thanks

Hi @Anonymous

How did you modelize the friction?

Hi @Simau,

I gave the slab  foundation elasticity. Then I defined a planar support as in the image attached.

Thanks

Never tried ,but as far as I remember you cannot use both support definitions at the same time on the same slab.

In your case you should use only the supports dialog box and forget "foundation elasticity" from the "New thickness "dialog box

I also tried defining the support in the support dialogue but I continue getting non convergences. Not for all the load cases but for most of them.

It's something strange because the sum of all the horizontal forces is zero.

Attached an simple example with friction

The model converge.

Could you share your model?

Not so strange if you don't have load cases with horizontal external forces

I did not find how you included the friction to the slab. I added an horizontal load of 1kN on a node at the top of one of the walls and the model did not converge.

I attach my model so you can see it.

Thanks

Hi @Anonymous

Create

New thickness with soil parameters Kz_Uz+ (and Kx, Ky to avoid instabilities)

Tank_1.jpg
Friction surfacique support

Tank_2.jpg
Set non linear parameters
