Hi all,

I have to reinforce a steel roof structure and I will weld 2UPN50 to a tubular 60X40X2. The strange thing is that when I will have to catigorize the section (see pic), the results get different when I pick the first or the second choise. The problem is that this kind of section doesn't belong to one of the available categories of software

The category type is only important if you want to design it.

Main Section properties ,A , J , should be the same on both categories.

But the whole scope is to design it.

Hi,

You have to classify this section by yourself, there is not typical design for it.

If you want to be conservative, take "u".

After that you use §6.3 EC3-1-1 to check instabilities.

Best regards,

NR.

ok, so this is something that the designer should deside, eventhough I thing is a little "dangerous". Is there a module to calculate §6.3 EC3-1-1 ?

Hi,

No for me it's always safety to check the design by hand calculation, and compare if you are ok with the software.

Of course RSA do that  :
