Panel contour slightly offset from node

Hi everyone,

I'm having trouble modelling panels because some point of the contour is actually not at the end of the bar as it's supposed to be (as it's easy to guess from the load distribution):

If I zoom 100 times, what I see it's a microscopic offset:StairsZoom.JPG

I tried to recreate the contour of the panel, to use the adjust tool or to use the roundup dll, but none of this things helped me (they actually increased the number of error messages)...

One reason may be that I started modelling those panels as cladding and then assigned them a thickness?

Hope someone can help me solve this problem.

Thanks

I did not check you model( cell phone).

But check if your panels are totally flat. A little difference can cause what you are seeing

Hi @Rafacascudo ,

it's supposed to be flat, and from the coordinates looks like it is:

My guess is that 2.24 is actually 2.240000001, so it's a tolerance problem...

Hi @sfbowe

As usual @Rafacascudo  is right.

2.24 vs 2.23735 etc

Thanks @Rafal.Gaweda ,

I was actually able to fix some of them with the coordinates RoundUP dll.

I still have a problem with panel 109 (ground floor) :

panel 109.JPG

In this case the coordinates seem to be those of a planar surface (after using the roundup tool)...

What's the cause of the problem in this case?

I have another few questions:

  • where can I find the make planar objects tool? I couldn't find it anywhere on the forum (not with that name)...
  • How can I avoid the coordinates problem altogether? Is there some setting to force every coordinate to have a 0.00 accuracy? I already had this problem many times and it seems to affect only panels coordinates.

Thanks

Hi @sfbowe

I quite frequently use this macro

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/robot-structural-analysis-forum/panel-contour-points-modification-api...

to control coordinates "manually"

I had a better look at the coordinates and I found that there was a 1cm difference on the x axis:

My only doubt now is if those kind of mistakes can be avoided in some way or I always have to use some macro?

I really don't understand how the x coordinates of a point of the contour was 3.4399996268 if when crating it I was using a node snap to a node whose x coordinate was 3.440000...

Node5041.JPG

For me an accuracy of 0.00 would be enough and would let me see easily if there are some errors.

Also I don't really like using tools that round up coordinates, because sometimes they produce additional errors...
