Not snapping accurately to dwg background

I have created a dwg background file for a basement slab which I am modelling and am trying to create supports at the pile locations. When I snap to the midpoint of the lines I have drawn in the pile locations the node is not created in the correct position. Please see screenshot attached. 

Can I change something in the settings to correct this?

Have you tried disable grid in snap settings?

Have you managed to define a pile/column in the right location?

Yes! I saved and closed the model and when I reopened it the nodes were snapping to the correct place.
