Non-linear analysis (P-Delta) with initial loading

Hi

Is it possible in some way to run a non-linear analysis with initial loading? I.e. I want to use permanent loads as the first step in a non-linear analysis and then continue with incremental loading of variable loads.

Can you please explain more about what you need to understand it better.

Hi @Anonymous

Try to define permanent loads in the 1st load case and then apply it as the staring ones to the live one. This is similar to running a cable model with the assembly load case.

So what do I put in the Case list field, permanent load case number or load combination number? I have tried both.

I have permanent loads in load case 1 and then I define a non-linear load combination (P-Delta) which includes permanent + variable loads. So when I check the reaction forces for the non-linear combination I expect/want to see reaction forces equal to the permanent load in the first increment (out of ten in my case). What I observe now in the first increment is reaction forces equal to 10 % of the sum of permanent and variable loads.

I hope you understand my descripiton and what I want to achieve.
