ISOLATED FOOTING DESIGN

Dear Sir:

  I'm trying to design an isolated footing for a typical one-story building.

   I've 2 questions:

  1. When entering "Soil Parameters", what is meant by "Minimum Reference Level Nf"?soil parameters.pngloads.pngprovided reinforcement.png
  2. I've entered only normal force reactions (no moments are exerted on the footing) and I've only one column acting on the isolated footing, but results report gives me TOP REINFORCEMENT for the footing. Can you please explain that?

Hi @Anonymous,

 

1. I think Minimum Reference Level Nf id the level of your foundation, while Pier is the level of the column. 

 

2. I don't understand the question, but maybe there is a minimum reinforcement calculated.

The level that yhe foundation base should not go below (if possible).

Assuming you didn't forced top reinforcement it can be due to the fact your force is uplift or the bending moment vs. foundation thickness is such that you need compression reinforcement.
