HI , I want to know how we can import from Autocad architecture to robot for 3D structure where I can find all the nodes and members automatically numbered and defined

Maybe on RSA 2080 releaseSmiley Happy

Today ,the best you can do is use autocad drawings as backgrounds to help building the model

Or use your autocad drawing to create a new beam and columms centerlines drawing saved in dwf or dwg. Then, this clean drawing can be imported/opened in RSA.

open dwg dxf.jpg

Hi , so I got your email and thank you so much for replaying on my question , but I cant draw it again it’s very very complicated and I did save it as dwg , it still the same , by the way i’m using the university computers which branched the program

If it was a structural drawing , probably you could delete all the layers except the beams and columms centerlines layers and open it in Robot . But probably your architectural drawing is not like that.

Hi,

can you try to export the ifc file in revit and then export it in Robot, but this workflow hide a lot of rissk for the quality of the structural model..

Hi, i am using the autocad as a back ground just as the same as the pic the program is allow me to inter the nodes and members but the problem is it's really hard to do it manually

Hi @Anonymous ,

Another workflow is that; if you are familiar with dynamo you can import this 3d dwg in to revit and using bimorph dynamo package you can bring this lines into dynamo as curves. using robot and dynamo analytical modeling package you can assign the required section on this curves and export to robot for further analysis.

If that seems hard you can create beam on this imported 3d dwg in revit itself using structural framing by curve node using dynamo  and export that using revit robot link.

if possible please upload the 3d dwg. let me check if I can help you or not.

for further Referance please have a look at this link

Revit Space Trusses using AutoCAD and Dynamo

If it is using ETABS i can bring the 3d dxf and assign the analytical bar on it.But I am not sure such felicity is available in Robot.

Hi @Anonymous ,

Did you got any progress? it seems very difficult for me to work with the file you gave Smiley Sad

Is it possible for you to produce only the center line curve of this geometry or the mass face that you used to create this ?

as @shefypattambi  said and I also said before ,a centerline drawing is the solution for your problems . In autocad I saved just a part of your structure and xploded all the elements on that drawing and only then opened in Robot as bars.

dwg xploded.jpg

To analyse this kind of structure in Robot you only need the bars centerlines

Hi, no , no progress yet but i'll try importing the structure feom the rivit then to robot .. And as my friend @Rafacascudo said i'll try to do with the center lines of the basr  that seems easy ... Thanks for asking and thank you for your effort 😊

Hi every one @Rafacascudo  @shefypattambi @StefanoPasquini6790  i just want thank you all for your help i opened the drawing from revit and i turned it to center lines insted of members and then exported to Dwg and opend it in robot and it did work and showed all the nodes and members... So really thank you all for your suggestions that was really helpful 😊🙏

Hi @Anonymous ,

Fantastic..!! can you share how did you achieve this ? is there any special tool to get center-line in AutoCAD Architecture?

oh it's not on AutoCAD it's by the Revit where you select the member in my case it was one unit of the truss and change the truss instead of giving it a material of steel for example I just changed to lines and then apply to the whole structure , and my friend did help me on that she is very good using the Revit

Hi @Anonymous ,

Sorry to bother you. I really like to know your workflow. something I am missing in revitSmiley Wink

How did you change that in Revit. Once I checked your cad file in Revit it is all poly-mesh. Would you mind sharing a screen-cast of your workflow ? I hope you are familiar with autodesk screen-cast app to record your screen.
