Hi

 

I’m trying to design a concrete wall trough robot structural analysis with the building design template. I don’t have the RC element design template with walls on my version of Robot structural analysis.

 

The wall should be hinged both on top and bottom. And have a line load on top and horizontal surface load.

I would really appreciate if someone could help me with that.

 

How much load that should be applied is not important, I will change it depending on the reinforcement. What is important now is to obtain the reinforcement.

 

I’m at a beginner level with robot structural analysis so if its possible to keep it simple.

 

I have uploaded a picture of the wall but for some reason I cannot upload the file. If someone is interested, I could send the file directly to you.

Hi

 

I dont understand how that can show me how to design a wall.

That only shows me how to change the job preferences to united states code instead of the eurocodes.

Okay thank you.

Just one question. Is it only calculations for plates?

I mean does it take considerations to that the wall is places on the ground like a wall (vertically)? or that it’s placed lying down like a floor?

Hi @Anonymous 

In your model you have membrane forces (linear load and dead weight) and bending moments coming from perpendicular load. So you can calculate reinforcement like for shell element

Membrane forces and bending moments can be taken into account while reinforcement calculation by choosing

"bending+compression/tension" in "Plate and shell reinforcement type" applied to calculated panel

Thank you for the reply but I’m trying to get the same result in the building design template. I have uploaded the pictures of what I have chosen. But what ever I do, the reinforcement area doesn’t change, even when I add more load on top the wall.

Hi @Anonymous 

You have concrete 25/30 with fck 25 Mpa

You have loaded your wall with compression forces only. Applied loads results in maximal stress value 1,2 Mpa

Reinforcement is almost not needed so program presents minimal reinforcement 225 mm2/m

 

If you load your wall with tension forces, reinforcement  will be much more sensitive for load changes

Okay

But on my wall, I only have compression forces on the top and no tension.

 

If I choose to increase my vertical compression line load.

 

Will the reinforcement increase?

Yes it will increase but relatively slowly comparing to load increasing

Try with linear load 8000 kN/m

And the wall can actually take that much pressure before failure?
