Axial Shortening of Columns

Hi,

I've a floor slab that is supported on a wall along the external perimeter and on internal UC steel columns. If I model the columns in Robot, will the software account for axial shortening of these members when I run the analysis?

Thanks in advance,

Jesper

No, if you mean shortening column as an initial state (column top at the level of slab bottom fibers) you can add offset to bar elements manually or model it shorter and connect with slab by rigid link.

Yes, if you mean shortening as a result due to loads

Is there a way of ignoring this effect due to loads?

I have odd axial forces in the bracing system under dead load only and I want to check if this is due to the shortening effect or something in my model is wrong.

Thank you!
