Hello All,
I am trying to create a tapered mainframe column and beam system. I have done many searches on this issue and have not found what I want, at least not the easy way.
I found a tapered column family and it seems to work the way I want it to. I have then created a tapered beam from the family ootb file Structural Framing – Beams and Braces. I have changed some of the parameters since I didn't all of them.
Then I created an extrusion using blend –>>(base) beam attached to column -->> (top) beam end. I attached some parameters within the blend. This is working the way I wanted (I think). Now I insert the beam as a structural framing component and pick the grid line and lock it.
This image shows a space, which I did intentionally..this configuration works when I change the dimension of the grid spacing...
Before I did that, I created a named reference plan for the top of the beam to align to. That seems to work. I want the column and beam to be on the grid line and locked to it so I can change the grid spacing and they move with it.
But.....
Then I try to move the end of the tapered beam to the face of the tapered column. I do not attach or align, I just move it to where I want. After doing that, I try moving the grid line BUT this is what happens.
Any ideas? If you need more detail of what I did, feel free to ask.
OR - is there a simpler way of doing this or is this part of the program to make these?
Thanks in advance...

Hey,
i have created a parametric tapered column using blend...but when i tried to apply base plate on it , it is not accepting any solution for this??
Hi. You would need to build a base plate connection family using the normal Revit family creation way, as tapered columns and beams is not supported by the Revit connections
