Structural Framing Family - Nested family length issue

Hi,

I'm currently modifying the OOTB precast hollowcore family to suit a locally manufactured item. The plan is to use it as part of a framing system to show each of the precast decks in the floor. The screed can then be added on top as a structural floor. This is my first attempt at modify families and I'm having 2 issues with this;

1. Adjustable length:

I've created the shape i need using a generic model extrusion, the voids are formed using a generic model void extrusion and a linear array is set up to adjust the number of cores as required. I've nested this family into another family(as this is how the OOTB family is created) but there is a length/constraint issue I can't resolve. Image No. 1 shows the extrusion I'm looking to use and image 2 shows the issue where the extrusion extends beyond the void by 76mm.

2. Variable widths:

At the moment the family has a set width of 1197mm. Is there a way I can make this variable retain the edge profile and void set-out on one side for when a partial precast deck is required to finish out the slab? Image No. 3 shows the OOTB family next to my attempted modification.

Any help would be appreciated.

Regards,

Pat

I've attached the nested family for clarity.

Here is a revised family fixing the length constraint.  You did not lock the extrusion of the nested family to the reference plane.  Your question #2 will take more time to response so behold.

This one should address both of your questions.

ToanDN,

Thanks very much for looking into this and for resolving it.

I've tried locking all lines of the extrusion myself to see how you resolved the issue but it's still not working for me. I'm a bit lost here. Could you do a step by step process or show screen shots of what you actually locked? Apologies if I'm annoying you but this is my first attempt at altering families so if I can nail this down it'll be great.

Regards,

Pat.
