Structural Beam System: why are the parameters instance based - makes much mjore sense to have them Type based

Hi, this is first time posting here... although i have a lot of Revit experience...
I'm trying to figure out why the SBS is based on an instance parameter set and not a type based set?

The problem is that you can end up with various joist spacings and member types under the same mark item, and that can rapidly make you have a bad day if you don't catch that there has been a snafu.

Far as I can tell the only to check for this is to have a "control schedule" that lists every single SBS details and make sure that the mark, beam and spacing matches what you're trying to achieve.

Can someone help me figure out how to use SBS in a "sane manner" where an SBS type actually fixes and defines a beam, spacing and mark...?

There appears to be no way to modify the family - seems like its a system family...?

Anyone got any clues?

Seems like these fields should be Type filed and not Instance...

Could you edit the Beams System Name and utilise the Type Mark for that System?

This could possible be used then in the Tags & Schedules and then utilise combined Parameters to associate the Beam System with the Beam Section (bad example below)

Previously we used Beam Systems for Preliminary designs but as soon as they went past this stage we removed Beam Systems using the and leaving just the beams as a company processes/directive.

That's a very good question.  I have often wondered why the type is editable, but the properties (as you pointed out) that would be the most likely to define a system are not included in the type definition.

If the beam systems worked the way almost everything else does in Revit, setting up standard framing types would be so much easier.

Agreed with you.  These parameters could have been Type, similar to those of curtain walls.

It was raised at one point but missed the cut unfortunately!
