Revit content libraries???

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hi

I have tried everything I have found online, but I just cannot get the revit templates to work (Revit 2016)?

I have installed, updated, uninstalled, reinstalled the content libraries? I have never had and have never seen the C:\PROGRAM FILES\AUTODESK\REVIT###\TEMPLATES folder???

After installing the content libraries, I see that there is a folder program files\revit content libraries 2016\... I tried to run the setup file from here, but it always says "The system could not open the device or file specified"... I have the USB stick in the computer when I run this, and it still does this?

Please can somebody help??

Thanks

Derryck

Hi @Anonymous,

Hope you are well! Smiley Happy

THIS ARTICLE will show you how to install additional Revit Content Libraries when you missed a couple during installation. THIS ARTICLE is also useful.

Also, if you're struggling, you can send me a Private Message with your email address and then I can share the default Metric or Imperial families with you. I have a Dropbox Folder with Revit 2016 Content Libraries ready...

But the article will help and the method works.

The default location for OOTB (out of the box) Revit Content Libraries:

To locate your ProgramData Folder, click on your Windows Start Button, then type in %programdata% and hit "Enter", this will then open that folder as a starting point, then you can follow the default locations below.

1-content-1.png

Revit 2016  :  C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\RVT 2016\Libraries\US Imperial\Doors (Choose between US Imperial or US Metric or any package as shown below )

Revit 2017  :  C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\RVT 2017\Libraries\US Imperial\Doors (Choose between US Imperial or US Metric or any package as shown below )

Also, prior to installing content libraries, to avoid possible errors, I generally go and delete everything in my TEMP folder: Windows Start Button >> Search: %temp% and hit "Enter" >> Select Everything and Delete it. Some files might not be able to delete, but that is ok.

If you're looking for additional Families, you can use BIMobject or RevitCity

I hope this helps! Smiley Happy

Thanks Everyone!

Haha.. all that was the problem was that I was not looking in programdata, I was looking in programfiles /?

Anyway. One thing that is still bugging me is that the templates say "Structural analysis - default" etc... I want it to just say "structural template", on the home/startup screen?

Cheers

Hi @Anonymous

I'm glad the posts in this thread provided a solution for you.

Regarding the Templates and the Default Paths, have a look at the following two links for further instructions:

(This will help you assign default templates and default template paths as you desire)...

Hi @rudi.roux,

Good day. I'm having the same problem and the solution i can think of is manually installing the libraries. Can you send me the link to Dropbox folder of the libraries? Thank you in advance.

Hi @Anonymous and all other members struggling with this,

Herewith is a Dropbox link to Revit 2016 - US Metric and Imperial content if the aforementioned solution still didn't provide you with the content which you are after: DROPBOX LINK

Simply upgrade the content when you load it into a project running on Revit 2017 or later.

I hope this helps! Smiley Happy

We've received many reports of customers that can successfully install Revit Content Libraries (the program) but the actual content files are not copied (or downloaded) to the local hard drive. While we have not been able to identify the underlying cause of this problem, we aim to mitigate the issue by making the Revit content files available via direct downloads on the following pages:
https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/revit-products/downloads/caas/downloads/content/autodesk-revi...
https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/revit-products/downloads/caas/downloads/content/autodesk-revi...

We are working on a separate page for the Revit 2018 content and hope to have it available in the near future. While waiting, you could download and use the Revit 2017 content files with the only drawback being the need to upgrade these files each time they are loaded.
