Revit 2017 Wide Flange Type catalog

Any ideas why the Revit 2017 W Shapes Type Catalog was not sorted correctly? Why would it not be sorted by size? This is very poor in my opinion.

I should NOT have to spend time fixing this.

It has always been this way in Revit.  When you load the family from the library, it will bring up the beams based on beam size from largest to smallest as you might see in a steel section table...it is based on the beam name not the width or depth dimension....however when you load the family inside Revit and the Specify Types dialog comes up, you can sort by any of the columns, so if you are looking for a specific value you can find it quickly.

Yes, but if the type catalog is not sorted correctly this work around will only get you so far.

also, with all of the new parameters autodesk has introduced, I would prefer they kept it they way the type catalog has been in the past, largest size to smallest size - just like the steel book.

this is what the type catalog looks like for the 14.1 Imperial Wide Flange Shape. Should not the W10x26 be higher in the list they W10x12?r17.jpg

I see which one you are talking about now...in the AISC 14.1 folder in the W Shapes family....agreed, that is a mess!  You can still use the filter to narrow things down if you know what height or width you want.  Not ideal I know.

I am working on reorganizing it....I will post it when I am done.

I hope Autodesk is fixing this as well and will let people know about it.

I got the file reorganized...I attached the family and the type catalog which I renamed both for clarity, but you can change the name to whatever you want on both.

Thank you. I was going to have my admin assistant help with this. I give you credit for doing this, but I hesitate to accept it as a solution as I still feel Autodesk needs to address this.

Job well done.
