Precast Issues

Hi Everyone,

I am creating a precast retaining wall that is not parallel, the bottom bells out (for structural reasons.)

Here is my issue, I have had to create the wall shape out of a sweep from an in place mass, I have assigned the family category to Structural Foundations, Material for Model Behavior is Precast Concrete. Assembly Code is A2010310-Shoring.

I have imported it into the project and created a Part, from there I have created an Assembly, hit the precast tab then split.

This last function deletes the assembly so I cannot add mounting parts or reinforcement.

Any ideas on how to stop it removing the assembly or is this just not possible to create something different.

I have also tried changing the category to Walls, and creating it as Structural wall with a sweep as the thickening (Precast wouldn't recognise the sweep as part of the wall).

The end goal of this exercise is to create Shop drawings for fabrication, so the solution will probably help with the problems I have for other precast elements that we make, such as culverts, tapered bollards, Road barriers etc that have shapes that are not OOTB.

I would also be keen on hearing from any other Precasters out there using Revit.

I have attached a short vid .

Cheers

Shawn

Hi @Anonymous,

The split command creates precast assemblies out of structural walls. Other elements are not supported. Once way of achieving that is to have a wall and modify the profile. After, you would be able to use split command and reinforcement. If you are interested only in shop drawings, create the wall (is has to be a structural wall), add all elements (mounting parts and reinforcement) manually and group the part and elements into an assembly. After that, you would be able to use the shop drawing command to obtain the shop drawing. The template that is being used for manually created assemblies is the one specified in shop drawing tab under the solid wall.

Let me know if you need additional information.

Kind regards,

Hi Bogdan,

Thanks for your reply, Sorry i have not written back sooner, job deadlines got in the way.

I am not sure I understand what you mean by have a wall and modify the profile, I have created a structural wall and edited the profile by adding a sweep.

But as previously mentioned the sweep is treated separate when split and will not host reinf.

Is there another way to edit a wall profile to keep it whole when split?

Another problem is if I add the mounting parts such as lifters manually then they might not be in the correct place as the centre of gravity is determined by the program and it automatically places them where required.

See attached for wall profile pics.

I will attempt to do a screen cast of the whole process

Create the wall from the thickest part then use voids to cut the shape,

this allows Revit to recognise it as precast and then you can manually place Reo, turn it into an assembly and create a shop drawing.
