Multiple Extrusions In Family and the Join Command in Project

The family:

I created a strip footing family using Generic Line Based family. There are two extrusions in the family. One extrusion is for Coarse and Medium detail levels and the other is for Fine detail level.

Shortcomings:

When loaded into project, slab always and only joins the extrusion that is set to show in Coarse level. Even when switching the view to Fine detail level, slab is joined to the Coarse extrusions in the family not the Fine extrusion.
