Can we combine line and face-based families together?

Technically speaking these are 2 different arts of families (more or less similar to a Detail item and Line Based Detail item so to say);
Moreover; for what purpose would one need to combine them?! A Line Based generic model, can be place/host on a Face or a Workplane (ie: similar to a Face based and/or a workplane based family)

The primary purpose I see for combining them is the ability to have a line-based void that automatically cuts the host. I have a void family that I would like to be line-based, and I can place it on the face of the ceiling, but it shows as an orange uncut void. I have to individually cut the ceiling at each instance once loaded into the model.
