Hi guys,
not a typical post this time but I would like someone's opinion. I want to get a laptop to to replace my home PC (not willing to fully replace it as that would be really expensive one). I need to be able to work occasionally in Revit (and CAD) at home. I really liked HP Envy x360 and Asus Zenbook Flip but I really doubt they would perform well as they both have only shared graphic card. I've seen Dell's 17 7000 which has GeForce 940MX 2GB and I think this could be good enough. And the price is not bad at all. However in most reviews they say it is just ok to run some games at low resolution. Now I'm not into games but I'm not sure how well it would perform with a 3D software such as Revit.
Thank you for anyone's opinion / experience.
Hello @Anonymous,
Please have a look at these links:
System requirements:
System requirements ‘Autodesk Building Design Suite’:
Compare the laptop of your choice with the System requirements for Revit.
Hope this helps.
Thank you Robert,
I am aware of the minimum system requirements, but I learned in the past 15 years that the minimum is many times not sufficient at all. While it might be ok for a small project, not sure how would it deal with something a little bit more complex. I have a 6y old laptop with 1GB GPU but only 1.6GHz quad core and it is ok for a small project, but impossible to work on a larger one (80x200m 1 storey steel frame). I was hoping for some recommendation from someone that has working experience with laptops of similar specs.
Hello @Anonymous,
Well I have a HP Zbook 17

When you look at the section "Performance: Large, complex models" in the link below you will see that de memory is very important.
I would recommend:
It depends on what you want to do with Revit or other programs.
only modeling or also make nice renderings.
I found this interesting link with Recommended Hardware for Revit
Hello @Anonymous,
Do you think this information is also useful for other users in the Forum?
If so, can you accept it as a solution so others can search for it.
Thanks.
