Ok so I think the issue is Revit strughles to see the Advance Steel elements and manipulate the graphics
If you want to link the DWG then you should take a copy of the Advance Steel DWG then follow the steps in the link below, this MUST be done in a copy of the model, the DWG will then just be 3D solids

I would strongly look at the intelligent workflows between Advance Steel and Revit using the Advance Steel extension in Revit, you can import your Advance Steel model and it will convert the Advance Steel objects into Revit Objects
