Instance Parameter with Certain Criteria

I would like to schedule a set of beams.  These beams have certain conditions attached to them.  I currently have two parameters set up (both text). Both Instance.  However I think one needs to be a type parameter but I cannot get that to work.  When I change the parameter in one, it then blanks the other in the schedule as I have different text.

Example;
Beam Condition A = Beam is Condition A

Beam Condition B = Beam is Condition B

Beam Condition C = Beam is Condition C

If the beam then changes to a B say from a C, I change the parameter to a B and I would like the description parameter to change accordingly rather than stay as C.

Is there a way I can do this without it being as labour intense?  i.e more intelligent?

your going to need to add a math formula into your length parameter if you want this to work

I think you overcomplicate the solution:

- add one text shared parameter to the beam family, enter condition A, condition B, condition C for each condition

- create a schedule and add that shared parameter

Sorry, this query is well out of date and didn't close it out. My solution was to add a parameter and then basically draw a legend.  It was only 3 conditions and didn't want to have multiple beam types for each condition.
