How to hide geometry in a floor plan ?

I am trying to split up a wall socket  family (not made by me) (let’s call it WSG, wall socket general) in two separate families. WSG has nested families ‘Recessed’ and ‘Surface mounted’, which are under Project  Browser --> Families --> Generic Models. It has Floor Plans ‘Ref. Level’ and ‘S4R_ThumbnailView’. Ref. Level contains the 3D geometry and the 2D symbol. The 2D symbol probably comes from the nested  family in Families --> Annotation Symbols. S4R_ThumbnailView only contains the 2D symbol. When the wall socket is placed in a floor plan, only that symbol shows. So I assume Revit is using S4R_ThumbnailView in Floor plans

Now I create 2 derivations, wall socket Recessed (WSR) and Wall socket Surface-mounted (WSS). To do that I throw away the other familily in Families --> Generic Models. Creating WSS that way seems to work. However, if I  delete Families --> Generic Models -->3D Recessed, I also delete an electrical connector, which seems to be somehow dependent upon that nested family. Furthermore, in the view S4R_ThumbnailView also contains the geometry. If the component is placed that geometry also shows on floor plans.

On the left the WSS. On the right WSR.I have looked at visibility settings without finding anything pertinent.

How do I get rid of that geometry in S4R_ThumbnailView ? What was proposed in forums.autodesk.com/t5/revit-mep-forum/symbols-in-revit-electrical-plans/m-p/6582458 didn’t work.

Thanks for your help.

Hello @Angayo,

I am going to help you with this.

This is a typical MEP question and belongs to the MEP forum.

But first I want to ask you if you can send me the family you mentioned.

Then I can have a look at it.
