Gird line not showing up even when it intersects all levels

Hi everyone,

I know this must be a really simple question with a simple solution - one of the gridlines I have on a lower floor plan does not show up on higher floor plans.

I checked to make sure that the grid line intersects all levels in a building section view. I also tried propagating the extent to the desired floors. It won't show up either way.

Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

Propagating extent only change the 2d extent of grids/levels, not affecting whether they show or not. Try a few things:
- select the gird in a section view, right click and maximize 3d extent
- check the grid type and view filters

Thank you for your reply.

I tried maximizing 3D extents in a section view-  didn't do anything.

The grid type is identical to those that show on other plans. The visibility setting for grids is checked. It's just this one grid that won't show in other plans.

for a grid to be visible in a plan view, the 3d extents of the grid
must intersect the level. go to section or elevation view of the entire
building make sure the extents of the grids are crossing all of the levels/bottom level.

another way is to create a view template that you be able to see all your grid in your view then apply to that view where the other grid  won't show . if manage to show then set you view template to none and see if helps. thanks

Would you be able to post the file, or a portion of it, for us to look at.

  • you can copy the file, rename it clean out any model or project information except for the stuff you want to show.

A photo would speak volumes. May we have at least one?

See if this helps though.
Go to an elevation view that shows the grid line that you need and ensure that it is intersecting all levels.

Select the grid line and drag it using the drag point until it crosses all levels and snaps to the alignement of other grid lines.

Below are snips of the model I'm referring to.

Grid 1.3 doesn't show in plan 2 (this is the plan of the floor above). In elevation, 1.3 is aligned with 1.2 both top and bottom.

I need you to select grid 1.3 in the elevation view, screenshot and share the picture.

That shows the 2d extent of the grid.  the actual 3d extent can be off the view.  Uncrop the view, select the grid again, click on the 2d label to change it to 3d and see where the grid extent is.

This is what I have. The other end of the grid is aligned as well.

3d extent seems to be okay.  Have you checked the grid's workset and the floor plan's view filters?

Try using a scope box to define the extents of the grid lines.

On the "View" tab just beneath "Schedules" is the scope box tool.

Draw a scope box even larger than the clipping boundry of the view (Give it a name in the properties or just leave the default name if you wish.

Select one grid line, right-click and select all instances in the entire project.

In the properties set the extents by selecting the name of your scope box in the drop down list

All the grid line extents will adjust to the scope box.

Hopefully this helps.
