FRAMING ELEVATION

So i have this building that jogs a lot on one side and I need to show only the exterior framing structures. I know how to use worksets, splitting segments  and hidding interior columns and beam but is there an easy way to produce a framing elevation that only show the exterior structure when a building jogs multiple times instead of hiding  elements on a worksets, and hiding elements in the interior of the building one by one?

Hope my query makes sense.

If I understand correctly, you want to apply a view template to your details which contain all the predefined settings for different views (e.g. foundation sections, structural sections, structural elevations etc.).

If that is the case, you'd have to assign a view template as I have done here:

View Templates.PNG

This way I don't have to keep hiding/editing my views everytime I cut a section, plan or elevations.

Sorry for the confusion. what I needed to happen is that if there is a way that i can show just the exterior structures of a building. You see, the building I have created has this multiple "jogs" in one elevation, and when i created the elevation view, i have to adjust the far clipping but it produces a lot of problems, but I easily solved it by assigning unique worksets to interior structures that i don't want to show up on my elevation view like for exapmle the OWSj's i assigned them to S-joist workset then I just turned it off easily. I also assigned a view template for my elevation view that matches our drafting standards. other than hiding them by workset or by elements one by one, is it possible for the far clipping of the elvation view to jog so it would follow the building profile? in that way if in the later part of the project we needed to add some columns in the inside or stairs or whatever, I won't worry about checking all my elevation views and check if they are showing? my question actually makes sense especially when you are modeling a huge building. hope it makes sense and I really apprecatie your response to my querry.

Thank you and Regards,

Franco

That's a great question, but it doesn't look like it's possible with the current feature.

You should submit this as a feature request through Autodesk's Contact Us (http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/index?siteID=123112&id=1109794) and the AUGI Wishlist (https://www.augi.com/wishlist).

Your methodology with worksets should work fairly well.  I typically don't recommend that worksets are used for a layer or visibility control.  What happens is that someone will leave that worksets as the active workset, and several elements accidentally get placed on that workset.

The more appropriate solution is to use view filters.  These view filters can be used to create "rule-based" visibility graphics settings.  Hence, you can assign a custom parameter for the frames so that only those objects show in the view.  Give them a try.  You'll find them in a tab within the Visibility Graphics dialougue.

Say like add a yes/no parameter to differintiate exterior structures from the interior ones that i can use to filter it?  That's a very great idea! why didn't i thought of that!!!! 🙂

Hey,

I am not able to add the parameter to the filter. I have used project parameter, shared paramter, added the parameter to columns and beams but I couldn't fifilter them. can you show me step by step on how you do it?

Thank You,

Franco

Try the workflow shown in the attached images.  I recommend using a custom parameter that is a text parameter instead of a Yes/No as this will provide you much more flexibility.
