Finding center of gravity

In AutoCAD when I needed to find the center of gravity for a shape I would create a region of the shape and use the mass properties to find the C.G.  is there any way to find the center of gravity for a shape in Revit?

This Add-In will be available in the Autodesk App Store when it gets approved by Autodesk.

As of now the CG Finder Add-In will calculate COG by mass only but hopefully the 2018 version will be able to calculate based on weight.

Here is a link to the install file if you trust it. But the app will hopefully in the app store by next week.

I can imagine that COG is not a default feature. Lots of thing in Revit are only representations of the objects. So COG of a Revit family can be totaly inaccurate.

However with the use of Dynamo, things can be done

Can this be done for the whole model itself or just geometry?

Hi there,

True, dynamo can deliver

As far as I know currently COG is based on geometry only:(. I would be glad if someone can prove me wrong and say COG can be calculated based on weight:))

I have developed a script for Dynamo that is based on weight. Their needs
to be a weight parameters in the family and needs to be an instance. So far
it has been working well.

Yes, it should be out in the next week or two. Sorry for the delay.

If you have used it in 2018 or 2017 and have any request let me know before I release 2019 so I can implement them.

Thanks,

Daniel Swanson

Daniel,
Does this or can you make it work with generic models based upon a weight
parameter?

Thank you in advance,
