dwg export distance between views on a sheet

Hi guys,

does anyone know how to control the distance between views (or what the rules are)  when exporting dwg?

Basically I exported several dwg from Revit to use it as an underlay. Then I had to make some changes and adjust some views placed on sheets and export it again. When I reloaded the xrefs the position of the views in model space changed more then I would expect.

thanks

I would avoid using the views generated from sheets in that manner.  I would recommend creating specific export views and then export the views themselves - individually.  That way you should end up with consistent export results.

thanks for your reply, unfortunately there are way too many views to export individually and then reference back to Autocad.

Exporting views (as opposed to trying to use views that are exported with sheets) is the only method that I am aware of that will result in consistent positioning.

Hi @Karol_Piroska,

Actually I have to agree with @brettgatti -The best/ safest way to achieve consistent view placement is to export views directly from the Revit views.

There has been some improvements though in this regards, in Autodesk Revit 2019 -  you might want to check this version with your project file (upgrade if necessary) and see if the results are better there.

Please, also feel free to share a simplified sample file showing the issue - making sure, that our understanding on the issue is correct.

I hope this helps -  we look forward to hearing from you.

Best regards,

Thank you for your reply Zsolt. I just wanted to know if there was any way to control the distance between views in model space. Basically I had to export many wall elevations to be used as an underlay in Autocad, but some views were just too close in models space. At the end I did export them one by one 100+. The implications were that it took some time to export and reference each view and then adjust some layers for each xref (for example there doesnt seem to be an option to control foundation cut pattern/hatch in revit exports so it had to be adjusted manually for each xref).

Hi @Karol_Piroska,

Thanks for your reply.

That indeed sounds like some manual work you did.

If you happen to have an idea for a product enhancement herefor, please, feel free to log that on the Revit Ideas Community site and post the related URL in this thread as well.

To be honest, I haven´t tested the tool myself in details yet, but the "Autodesk Enhanced DWG Exporter for Revit" tool might be useful for similar challenges in the future as well.

I hope you found the exchange of thougths in this forum thread useful. At this time I will mark a couple of answers in this thread as a solution - pointing other users to the conclusion we found.

Hi @Karol_Piroska,

your earlier post as follows kept bugging me:

"Basically I exported several dwg from Revit to use it as an underlay. Then I had to make some changes and adjust some views placed on sheets and export it again. When I reloaded the xrefs the position of the views in model space changed more then I would expect. "

Could you please send a sample file and the detailed steps, so that I could reproduce the behavior on my end.

It might be interesting for a deeper investigation.

Please, feel free to send me files directly to the escalated support case, in case you don´t want to share files with the rest of the community. I will handle your data confidentially and only for the investigation.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Best regards,
