Hello everyone,

i'm new of forum, i work with revit from 2014. For our office standard we try to implemenet the structural connection in Revit 2018.3 with custom  structural frame shape.

Here we have a custom frame shape "Double HEB 500" with HEA 320 framing, when i try to put a simple "shear splice plate" connection family, but revit automatically change the graphic of structural framing!

IMG in Attachments:

01- Girder structural framing

02-Second order of structural framing

03-Change graphics of Girder with application of structural connection

Can someone help me?

You modified the family but the section name key remained from the "original" one.

By adding steel connections to elements, the steel fabrication representation is created. In order to be created, section name key is considered to properly map the list of parameters. Each section name key is specific to a catalog entry. Your double I section has a key of a different kind of section type, I section.

Not all the families types were enabled to work with the steel fabrication workflow.

A list can be found here: https://help.autodesk.com/view/RVT/2018/ENU/?guid=GUID-42A0D283-ADE6-4004-BBF7-EF782BE35103

So, in your case, there's not much to do. You have two options:

- create your double I family, without the section name key (this parameter cannot be removed, as far as I know) - but, steel connection will not be able to use it as input.

- Use an I shape corespondent to represent your double I section.

(The double sections are not supported in 2019 and 2020 either)
