Controlling level below for a level or view

Is there any way to control what the "level below" for a specific level is? The reason I ask is because I think when you put in a column the default is for the bottom to be set at the level below. I want to set up my template so that when i'm putting in columns I don't have to adjust the bottom elevation. The only place I've seen level below referenced is in the view range. Thanks!

@fritzQH7E9: There is no direct solution that can be applied to the column command directly.

But you can set up a view template with a view range from level 1 to level X, apply that template to your curent view, then draw your column in that view. Depth/Height of the column is controlled by the view range, so the column will be drawn from level 1 to level X in one piece.

After that you can go to the Properties Pallette -> Identity data -> View Template and choose None instead your template.

I know it's kinda dumb. I would prefer the Column command to have options for bottom range and top range.

I don't think columns are controlled by the view range. I think they are controlled by what revit thinks the level below is, which isn't always the next level down in elevation.  I think it depends on what order you create the levels in but i'm not really sure
