Continuous beam tags

Iam using Revit 2016, I have continous beam divided into 4 spans by 5 columns, modeled in revit as one continuous beam for reinforcement and analysis purpose. This one continuous beam has constant dimensions all over the spans, but with 3 beam types(B1, B2, ...) based on different spans between columns. When I try to add tag to this beam, Revit deals with it as one element with single section and single type.

Is there a way to add different tags to this beam based on type considering that it has the same dimensions, without the need to duplicate the beam section for each type ?

Thanks..

I'm not sure what do you mean by beam types (B1, B2, ...).  I assume you are not talking about Revit family types.  A family type can be assigned to a single element only.

Actually why do you need a multispan beam? You can join analytical model with fixed releases. For reinforcement you may change rebar constrains. You don’t need to duplicate family types to have different tags. You may use for example beam instance “Type” parameter to describe the beams and include it in a tag label.

But if you really want to tag different parts of the beam with the “type” number you may use Parts division. It is a bit hacky. I have divided a beam into parts. Then tagged a multispan beam, in several places with the same type mark B.

I have added a tag for parts. The suffix (1,2,3) comes from instance parameter. The numbers are separate tags, manually aligned with the beam tags. See attached image.

@okapawal

Thanks alot and sorry for being late to reply, your second paragraph for "different parts of the beam" is a very good idea and matches my case.

I have divided the beams into parts with the same type mark B, but if you please explain how to add separate tags for parts as instance parameter and aligned them manually to the beam ?

FYI, what i meant by beam types (B1, B2, ...), is that i have one continuous beam with the same dimensions but they are different in their type based on the reinforcement (top, bottom and stirrup rebars). I define the beam only one time at revit then I use revit extension to add reinforcement to the whole continuous beam at once, so the revit understand the continuity of the beams and add additional reinforcement above the column and so on.

You need to set Parts Visibility to Show Both (it is Original element and Parts)

Then load Part Tag family and annotate parts.
The standard Part Tag displays Mark value.  Set appropriate value (1,2,..) in each part.

See the screencast...

Thanks for your quick reply..,

I've followed your procedure and it works fine, I just added the "B" letter as a prefix to the part tag instead of move the part mark manually beside the "B".

Just to complete the whole task/answer, Is there a way to categorize other beams in the project to have the same tag, or to assign the same tag to multiple parts(beams) at once ?

I did all this step. However am unable to get the mark tag

From project browser,if you click on type tag,it is seen here in the video that the mark is coming. I am unable to generate that
