Columns - Material For Model Behavior - Wood/Other - Cut Pattern and Draw Order Issues?

Hi,

I'm trying to understand more about the "Material For Model Behavior" property. Specifically, how it behaves for columns "Wood" and "Other".
I am having trouble finding documentation on this.

Here's what's happening,

I am doing wood framing plans.
We are using Structural Plan, View Direction - Up.

What you see here on the left are 2 posts (Structural Columns) spanning floor-to-floor.
On the right, is a door family, with nested columns, each is also floor-to-floor.

For the Level 2 framing plan, I am cutting below Level 2 and looking up.
This should result in a cut of those 3 posts.
Their material is "Softwood, Lumber", with "Material For Model Behavior" set to Wood.

For some reason, when the column's "Material For Model Behavior" is set to Wood,
The column will not recognize the Cut Pattern set by Material.
In fact Cut Pattern overrides in Visibility/Graphics is completely ignored as well.  I've never seen Revit behave like this before.

Also, for some reason, it is showing the Surface of the column ABOVE.
It seems like the Cut item isn't being prioritized, but rather the item BEHIND it.

However, when I set the column's "Material For Model Behavior" is set to Other, Revit will recognize the Material Cut Pattern.
And Visibility/Graphics will function as normal.

Here, you can see the Structural Column on the left is set to "Other".

The nested columns are still set to "Wood", and they show the bottom face of those posts.

Also, if I take the bottom door (with posts), copy them slightly off to the side.
Delete the original, and move the door back to the original spot.
Then the draw order (with Cut in front) shows correctly.

I'm hoping somebody and help illuminate me on what's happening.
What's the actual intended behavior of the program,

I'm happy to dive into some reading material.

Thank you so much!

Monday morning bump.

Does anybody have any more info or documentation please?

I'm hoping not to walk blindly into similar issues in the future.
