Best way to schedule entire project?

On Revit, you have a series of possible schedules and material takeoffs. So if you want columns, you start a column schedule/takeoff, and so on.

But, in the end, how do you know you're not leaving anything out? For example on very complex projects, you might have some doors hidden away in a corner of your model (say doors aren't in your scope, except the base level fire door). If you do the usual takeoffs: columns, walls, floors, foundations, and forget about those doors, you're in trouble. I'm looking for a way to crosscheck that everything in my model is in the takeoffs I generate.

What's the usual way of doing a takeoff for everything in the model? Will a multi-category takeoff include every object?
