Beam end shortening customization

Hello, I've been struggling to customize beam-ends both in Revit 2023 and Advance Steel 2023.  It only gives limited actions. For instance, this is (pic 01 ) the style both software give while I'm looking to have the other one (pic two). How do I achieve the latter? Thanks.Pic onePic onePic twoPic two

Hi @walidel

You dont want to use the shortening command for what you want.

In Revit use the contour cut command and draw out the shape you need

In Advance Steel set the UCS so you are looking at the web of the beam then use the Polygon contour tab to cut out the shape

I have made a short screencast showing how its done in both - https://autode.sk/3yPcGlk

You might also find our Graitec UK content portal useful, 60+ webinars, the majority are Advance Steel but there are 10+ on Revit and the Steel tools in Revit - https://www.graitec.co.uk/cad-courses/training-tutorials-and-webinars/advance-steel-content-portal

I've been trying to figure this out for almost a month now, and I'm grateful to you for your help. It's an excellent location to look for answers if having issues.

You can also very easily use the "opening by face" command or any cutting geometry family

You can't use  "By Face" when a connection is applied

That's correct, the family gets changed to a fabrication family
